Success at State -- The Bears finished the year with an amazing 6th place finish at the State Tourney in Kennewick, knocking off repeat champion Mead along the way.

Congratulations on another successful season!

ON TO STATE!! -- The Bears returned to form and took care of business today at the Kitsap Pavillion. Oly swept both opponents 3-0 to claim either the 4th or 5th seed from District 3. The State bracket match-ups have been posted and Oly will face Bothell in the first round at 10:30 am on Friday.

Gig Harbor was the first to fall and had little answer to the Bears tough passing, quick attacks, and strong serving. Auburn-Riverside didn't fair much better in the 4:00 match. The team communicated well and Brigit Miller proved why she earned the MVP for the Narrows League. Some excellent passing allowed her to distibute the ball evenly--keeping both Gig Harbor and A-R on their heels throughout both matches.

Nice job ladies. Kennewick awaits!

Bellarmine will also represent the Narrows League at State after a 3-1 win over a tough Kentlake team.

November 12, 2008
Oly still in running for State berth -- The Bears split a pair of matches last Friday, winning against Graham-Kapowsin and then dropping a tight match against a resurging Curtis team.

This sets up a noon match against league rival Gig Harbor on Saturday in the Kitsap Pavillion at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds (Directions). The winner goes on to a 4:00pm match against the winner of the Auburn-Riverside v. Kent-Meridian. The winner of that match will be either 4th or 5th based on a coin toss.

See the tournament syllabus for more information and a map of facilities.

Five Bears made the Narrows all league team and Coach Laurie Creighton was deservedly recognized as coach of the year.

Way to go Bears!

The 4A bracket for Districts has Oly matching up against Graham-Kapowsin at 2:15 on Friday and then either Curtis or Puyallup depending on results of both matches. Seeding from SPSL are in this Tribune article.

October 31, 2008
Seeding for Districts begins with win at League Tourney -- Shelton made the trip to Oly again Thursday night with similar results. The Bears won in three (25-15, 25-17, 25-14). Oly was tough from the service line with Jackie Reese leading the way, going 18 for 18 with 3 aces. Lisa Chulich had 14 kills from all over the court and Megan Triggs had 23 digs to anchor the defens.

The match marks the last home match of the season for the Bears. Thanks to players, coaches, parents and other volunteers for your efforts in making the season a success.

Oly next faces Stadium at noon at Mt. Tahoma on Saturday after they downed Central Kitsap 3-0. The winner goes on to play for first or second seed for Districts against either Gig Harbor or Bellarmine at 5:00 pm.

October 27, 2008
Oly finished league undefeated -- The Bears paid tribute to five varsity seniors by sweeping Shelton in three games tonight in the last match in Narrows league play (25-15, 25-17, 25-14). Breanna Knittle, Nicole Mertens, Brigitt Miller, Jackie Reese, and Michelle Woodward were all recognized for their contributions to the program. Senior Johanna Scheuba, an exchange student from Austria on the JV squad, was also honored.

Oly will see the Highclimbers again this week in the first match of post-season play Thursday night at 7:30pm at Olympia. The winner will move to a noon match on Saturday against the winner of the Stadium v. Central Kitsap match. All Saturday matches will be held at Mt. Tahoma.

Bears secure top spot in Narrows -- The Tide from Gig Harbor rolled into town but were swept out by the Bears. The Tide played well but Oly only trailed for a short time during the third game. Final scores were 25-23, 25-22, and 25-17.

The top eight teams will move to the Narrows tournament at Mt. Tahoma (directions) on October 30th and November 1st. Six of these teams will move on to Districts.

The brackets for the 4A District 3 tourney are now available. Note that it now appears first round of Districts will be played on November 7th but the second round has been rescheduled to the following weekend, Saturday November 15th.

October 21, 2008
Oly takes care of business at CK -- The Bears travelled to the Cougars home court and quickly made the crowd aware that there would be no slow start tonight. Oly only trailed once by a point early in the third game but dominated the match overall, winning 25-20, 25-20, and 25-12.

Brigitt Miller continued her rock solid play, dishing 31 assists while contributing 7digs and 2 blocks. Michelle Woodward had 5 kills, 5 blocks, and 6 digs despite leaving the match midway through the second game with an ankle injury.

It was the last away game in the regular season for the Bears. They next face Gig Harbor at home Thursday night at 7:00.

Gig Harbor was inactive tonight. Bellarmine topped Lincoln 3-0 and Stadium beat Foss 3-0. Shelton was also a winner against Mt. Tahoma 3-0 and South Kitsap jumbled up the standings by squeaking by Wilson 3-2.

October 16, 2008
Bears lone undefeated team in Narrows -- Oly is alone atop the Narrows league standings after Wednesday's win over Mt. Tahoma, 25-7, 25-9, 25-16.

Bellarmine took down undefeated Gig Harbor 3-1 to remain in contention for the title. Central Kitsap's hopes for a shot at the Narrow's crown were hurt by a close 5-game loss against Wilson on CK's home court. In other matches, Shelton beat Foss 3-0 and Stadium defeated Lincoln 3-1.

The Bears are now in control of their own destiny in league as they'll play both Central Kitsap--away on Tuesday--and Gig Harbor at home on Thursday next week.

Bears eat Rams -- The Bears travelled to Wilson tonight where they took down the scrappy Rams, 3-1. The Rams took the first game 25-20 with some tough serving that kept the Bears off-balance. Oly made the adjustment and won the next three games 25-10, 25-15, and 25-20.

Brigit Miller had 29 assists and 9 digs while Nicole Mertens had 14 kills and Lisa Chulich and Jackie Reese each had 8 kills.

October 12, 2008
Oly takes Cap City -- The Bears returned to form on Saturday, taking down a number of good teams on their way to winning the Capitol City Classic tournament on Saturday.

Oly first won their pool, where they were placed with Bothel, Kentridge, and Sequim. In bracket play, they knocked out crosstown rival Capital, then both local class 2A powers Tumwater and Black Hills to take the title--all in 2 game matches.

While the entire day was highlighted by excellent play by the entire team, Brigit Miller was named the tourney MVP and Nicole Mertens and Megan Triggs were recognized for their outstanding performances. Ninja Power!!!

October 9, 2008
Bellarmine falls to the Bears -- Oly never really found a rhythm but still put away the Bellarmine Prep Lions 3-games-to-1. After dropping the first game 21-25--a game where both teams struggled from the service line--the Bears pulled together and won the next three.

The teams traded the first four games back and forth (26-24, 28-30, 25-21, 22-25) with stellar play on both sides of the net. The fifth game did not dissapoint with Rogers jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Bears battled back to win the match 15-11 on a huge kill by Nicole Mertens, her 9th for the match. Lisa Chulich was a force on both offense and defense with 14 kills, 4 blocks and 25 digs. Michelle Woodward had some key points with her 10 kills and added 8 blocks from the right side hitter position.
